Lights of Tomorrow

After over 25 years of volunteering in the public schools in her community and 23 years of working in law enforcement, Monica Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Lights of Tomorrow (LOT), founded this organization with a vision to help those under-served youth in her community who were missing out on various opportunities to develop leadership skills and obtain the tools to improve their academic status.  The program consists of conducting workshops throughout the year on various topics that affect the target population of ages 11 - 24 years old. Some of the workshop topics include: College Planning; Health; Drug Use/Abuse; Domestic Violence & other issues facing the target population.  The model of the program is to develop partnerships with other community stakeholders ie, parents, schools, local clergy, law enforcement, and other community based organizations.  Each workshop encompasses an emphasis on community service using the workshop subject matter to develop community service projects.   At least two (2) youth representatives from the middle and high school level will participate in the Board in an advisory capacity.

The George Lucas Educational Foundation

The George Lucas Educational Foundation (GLEF) is a nonprofit operating foundation that documents and disseminates models of the most innovative practices in our nation's K-12 schools. They use their Web site, Edutopia Online, to celebrate the unsung heroes across our nation who are making "Edutopia" a reality. This is a thought provoking and worthwhile site.

GirlTECH

Cynthia Lanius, Executive Director at Center for Excellence and Equity in Education (CEEE) has established GirlTech, a teacher training program sponsored by CEEE. This site provides very useful information and insight on getting girls interested in computers.

Association for Women in Computing

The Association for Women in Computing is a non-profit professional organization for women and men who have an interest in information and technology. The Association is dedicated to the advancement of women in the technology fields.

The American Association of University Women

The American Association of University Women is a national organization that promotes education and equity for all women and girls. Their commitment to these issues is reflected in their public policy efforts, programs, and diversity initiatives. This site provides a wealth of information on the inequity in education and the work world.

The Center for Women and Information Technology

The Center for Women and Information Technology, established at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) encourages more women and girls to study computer science and/or information systems and to pursue careers in the IT field. This site is used to foster research concerning the relationship between gender and the IT field.

Educating Jane.com is a national site for girls, their parents and educators dedicated to girls' self-esteem, self-awareness, and involvement in the world. Educating Jane is committed to providing scholarship leads, information, and opportunities to succeed.

Association for Women in Science

The Association for Women in Science is dedicated to achieving equity and full participation for women in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. AWIS is a non-profit association working to promote women's activities in all scientific fields from mentoring to scholarships to job listings.
